Get started

What do I need?
64-bit Windows 10 (version 2004 or later) or Windows 11. You don’t need an account. Fast mode needs an internet connection; Private mode works offline once its models are downloaded.
How do I install FilesPal?
Get the installer on the download page and open it. It installs for your user account only, without admin rights. FilesPal then opens by itself and walks you through the first step.
Windows warns me about the installer
Choose “More info,” then “Run anyway.” The warning appears because FilesPal is still new and few people have downloaded it yet. To check the file first, compare its SHA-256 checksum with the one on the download page.
Fast or Private: which mode should I choose?
Fast is ready right away, without a download. Text and voice go encrypted through filespal.com to our AI providers and are never used for training. In Private mode, AI and speech recognition run on your PC after a one-time download, with no monthly limit even on the Free plan. You can switch anytime in Settings. Details are in our Privacy Policy.
Which scanners work?
Scanners and multifunction printers with a Windows driver (WIA or 64-bit TWAIN), and network devices that scan without a driver (AirScan or Mopria, also called eSCL). If yours doesn’t show up, install the driver from its maker. You can also scan with your phone’s camera, without installing an app.
How do I add files from File Explorer?
Drag them onto the FilesPal window. Or right-click a file and choose Send to › FilesPal; on Windows 11, that’s under “Show more options.” FilesPal then names and files it like everything else.
FilesPal suggested the wrong folder. How do I teach it?
File the document where it belongs. FilesPal shows what it learned from that, with “Undo” right next to it. Everything it has learned is listed under Rules › Learned, where you can remove entries. Your rules always come first.

Plans and billing

What does the Free plan include?
Free is for personal use, with no time limit: 100 documents, 300 AI answers and 500 voice inputs per device per month. Keyword search and Private mode are unlimited.
What does Premium cost?
$9.99 a month or $89 a year, plus applicable sales tax, for one person on up to three devices. Premium includes 5,000 documents, 10,000 AI answers and 5,000 voice inputs per device per month. See Pricing.
How do I activate Premium?
After purchase, your license key arrives by email. In FilesPal, open Settings › Account › License, enter the key and choose “Activate.”
I lost a PC or my license key
On Manage license seats, request a link with your license email. Use it to release a PC you no longer have, or have a new key sent to you.
Where do I find invoices or change my card?
In the customer portal. Sign in there with the email address you used to pay.
How do I cancel?
Cancel anytime, without logging in, on our cancellation page or by email. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for. A yearly Premium subscription past its first year ends one month after we receive your cancellation at the latest, and we refund the prepaid remainder pro rata.
Can I get my money back?
Within 14 days of the first payment for your first paid plan, you can get a refund, minus any use beyond the Free allowances, in proportion to the price. Request it on the refund page; it shows the exact amount before you confirm. The money goes back to your original payment method.

Privacy and your data

Do my documents leave my PC?
Your files and search index stay on your PC or in the folders you’ve added. In Fast mode, AI features send document content, questions and voice recordings over an encrypted connection through filespal.com to Anthropic, OpenAI or, for voice, Mistral AI, including in the USA. We and these providers keep content only for limited periods and don’t use it for training. In Private mode, AI and speech recognition run on your PC. Phone scans, the inbox address and Outlook still go through our server when you use them. See our Privacy Policy.
Where are my documents?
In your own folders on your PC. When FilesPal renames or files a document, you can undo it for 30 days.
What happens when I uninstall?
Uninstall in Windows Settings › Apps › Installed apps › FilesPal › Uninstall. Your documents stay where they are. Uninstalling doesn’t end a subscription; cancel it on our cancellation page.

If something doesn’t work

Something isn’t working
In FilesPal, open Settings › Help & info and choose “Is everything running?” FilesPal checks whether our server answers, your allowance suffices, your folders are reachable and learning is progressing. If that doesn’t help, use “Send feedback” there or write to info@filespal.com.
How do updates work?
FilesPal checks for a new version at start and then every six hours, and verifies it by checksum and digital signature before installing.
Does it work offline?
Yes, in Private mode: AI and speech recognition run on your PC once the models are downloaded. Phone scans, the inbox address and Outlook need the internet, and so do updates and occasional license checks.
Is FilesPal available for Mac?
An older Mac version is available on the Pricing page. Everything described here refers to the Windows app.

Your download is starting.

Ready in a minute.

  1. Open the file. FilesPal-Setup.exe appears in your browser’s downloads.
  2. If Windows shows a warning: choose “More info,” then “Run anyway.” This appears because FilesPal is new.
  3. You’re ready. FilesPal opens automatically and walks you through the first step.
