FilesPal

Rename scanned PDFs

Scans named by what they say.

FilesPal reads your scanned PDFs, photos and documents, suggests a clear name and folder for each, and renames them in one pass after you review.

How it works

Three steps to clear names.

  1. Choose the folder

Add the folder with your old scans. New files can come in on their own: from Downloads or any folder you choose, your scanner or your phone’s camera.

  2. Review the names

FilesPal reads each file, scans and photos included, and suggests a name and a folder. Nothing is renamed before you’ve reviewed it.

  3. Rename in one pass

Confirm, and the files get their new names. Renames and moves can be undone while the files still exist.

Good to know.

Reads the page
A scan is a picture of a page, and its file name is just the scanner’s counter. FilesPal runs text recognition on your PC and names the file after what the page says.
Finds it again
Search works on what’s inside your documents, not just their names. Ask a whole question, and answers point to where they found it, so you can check.
Your folders
Files keep their place in your own folders. Your files and search index stay on your PC.
Fast or Private
In Fast mode, text goes encrypted through filespal.com in the USA to Anthropic or OpenAI, is kept only for limited periods and is never used for training. In Private mode, AI runs on your PC. Privacy Policy

More answers in Help

Which scanners work?
Scanners and multifunction printers with a Windows driver (WIA or 64-bit TWAIN), and network scanners that need no driver (AirScan or Mopria, also called eSCL). You can also scan with your phone’s camera, without installing an app.
Does it work offline?
Yes, in Private mode: AI and speech recognition run on your PC once the models are downloaded. Phone scans, the inbox address and Outlook need the internet, and so do updates and occasional license checks.
What does it cost?
FilesPal is free for personal use. Premium costs $9.99 a month for one person on up to three devices. Prices are plus applicable sales tax. See Pricing.
Can I use it for work?
Yes. Try it free for work for 30 days; the trial never turns into a paid subscription. After that, you need FilesPal Business.
Is FilesPal available for Mac?
An older Mac version is available on the Pricing page. Everything described here refers to the Windows app.
